57. The UK Parliament's Scotland Delusion: Why Somaliland Is Not Leaving a Functioning Union

A recent parliamentary response on Somaliland reveals the UK's continued misunderstanding of the Somaliland case:

"The settlement of Somaliland's status is an issue for authorities in Mogadishu and Hargeisa to decide through a consultative process and dialogue"

What a load of bullshit!

That dialogue failed for 12 straight years. So why is Somaliland still being chained to an illegal union that collapsed and died 35 years ago?

Let us be clear. That attempted union only existed for 28 years (1960-1988). Somaliland has now been separate for longer than the attempted union ever lasted.

Yet the argument is framed as if Somaliland is trying to leave a stable, functioning state. It is not. Somaliland already exited a failed and unratified arrangement decades ago, after a genocide and total state collapse.

You think you created Somalia in 2012? You did not.

A flag at the UN did not rebuild a state. Al Shabab still controls large parts of the country. The government survives behind foreign troops, donor money, and fortified zones.

This is not a recovered state. It is a managed mess.

Hand on, I know what is going on

Why is this answered as if it is Scotland and the UK?

If true, Scotland would be leaving a functioning state through a valid, ratified union. Somaliland left a collapsed state after a union that was never legally completed.

Is Labour really so insecure that they fear a future where the UK collapses for 30 years, and Scotland then ends a valid union unilaterally?

The website says TheyWorkForYou. On this question, Jenney, I reckon you are working for no one. You are not helping the UK, Somaliland, or even Somalia.
